BetterRTX Shader (1.26+) – World’s First Bedrock Ray Tracing Shader
Ray-traced lighting shader for Minecraft Bedrock with reflections, shadows, and tone mapping. Requires a ray-tracing-capable GPU and Windows 10/11 64-bit.
- 1.26
BetterRTX is a free, open-source shader for Minecraft Bedrock that adds ray-traced lighting on top of your existing textures. It implements real-time ray tracing for reflections and shadows rather than approximating them, and layers additional post-processing effects without replacing your texture pack.
Features
- Ray-traced reflections on water, glass, and other reflective surfaces
- Ray-traced shadows with natural light falloff
- Tone mapping to reduce washed-out appearance in bright lighting
- Depth of field effect for cinematic camera presentation
- Color grading adjustments applied to the ray-traced image
- Non-destructive installation that can be removed without affecting your game files
System Requirements
Windows 10/11 64-bit with a ray-tracing-capable GPU is required. This is a hardware requirement because the effect uses actual ray tracing instead of lighting approximations.
Minimum:
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or better
- CPU: Intel Core i5 or equivalent
- RAM: 8GB or more
- Storage: 2GB or more
Recommended:
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or better
- CPU: Intel Core i5 or equivalent
- RAM: 8GB or more
- Storage: 2GB or more
Installation
- Note that the Microsoft Store version of Minecraft keeps its installation folder locked while running. To avoid permissions errors, either install Minecraft through a third-party launcher instead of the Microsoft Store, or use a file-unlocking utility to grant the installer write access.
- Download the BetterRTX installer.
- Run the installer and point it to your Minecraft installation directory.
- Complete the installation process.
- Launch Minecraft Bedrock and enable the shader through your graphics settings.
Compatibility
BetterRTX requires version 1.26 or later and is exclusive to Windows 10/11 with ray-tracing-capable hardware. It is maintained by an independent open-source team and is not affiliated with NVIDIA or Mojang.
