Cookie Policy
This page explains what cookies and similar storage technologies modstr uses, why we use them, and how you can control or revoke your consent at any time. It complements our Privacy Policy.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store on your device so it can recognise you on the next visit or remember your choices while you browse. We also use related browser storage technologies — most commonly localStorage and sessionStorage — to remember things like whether you've already liked a post.
Categories of cookies we use
1. Strictly necessary
These are required for the site to work and cannot be turned off in our systems. They do not store any information that personally identifies you.
- Session (
modstr_sid) — keeps you logged into the admin area and protects forms with anti-CSRF tokens. Lifetime: up to 1 year, or cleared when you sign out. - Consent (
modstr_cookie_consent, stored in localStorage) — remembers your choice on the cookie banner so we don't ask again on every visit.
2. Functional
Help the interface remember your interactions across pages and visits. They do not track you across other sites.
- Post actions (localStorage key
modstr_post_actions) — remembers which posts you've liked or shared so the buttons show the correct state when you come back. - Random-post throttle (sessionStorage) — avoids serving you the same "random post" twice in a row inside one browsing session.
3. Analytics
Help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve content and performance. The data is aggregated and we cannot use it to identify you.
- Google Analytics 4 (
_ga,_ga_*) — counts unique visits, the pages you view and where you came from. Set by the scriptgoogletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=G-3F7PB6GX3B. Lifetime: up to 13 months.
4. Advertising
Ad providers may set their own cookies to limit how often you see the same
ad, to measure clicks, and to detect fraud. Ads only run on the
download gateway page (/download/…), not
on listing or post pages.
- Pop-under ad — fires once when you click the final
"Download" button on a download page. Script:
hd.cathaytrash.com. - Shuffle Box widget — a small ad widget rendered on the
download page. Script:
if.gleavemeecher.com.
We do not sell your data to advertisers. Each provider operates under its own privacy policy; you can also opt out of personalised advertising via the YourOnlineChoices portal or your browser settings.
Your choices
When you first visit modstr we show a banner where you can Accept or Reject non-essential cookies. Strictly necessary cookies are always set because the site cannot work without them.
You can change your mind at any time:
- Click the button below to bring the banner back and update your choice.
- Block or delete cookies through your browser's settings — every major browser provides controls under Settings → Privacy.
- Install a browser extension that blocks third-party scripts (e.g. uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger).
Do Not Track
Most browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal to websites. There is no consistent legal standard for how a site must respond to it, so we treat your choice on the cookie banner as the authoritative signal.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as we add or remove third-party tools. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always show when it was most recently revised.
