ViaVersion is a server plugin that enables clients running newer versions of Minecraft to join servers running older versions. Installation is straightforward: drop the plugin file into your plugins folder. If you're using a proxy like BungeeCord, see the setup instructions below.

Features

  • Supports newer client versions connecting to older server versions, including minor version differences.
  • Use ViaBackwards and ViaRewind plugins alongside ViaVersion to allow older clients to connect to newer servers.
  • Development builds marked with a dash (e.g., -DEV) are available from the build server.

Commands

  • /viaver list – Display which Minecraft version each connected player is using.
  • /viaver autoteam – Toggle collision auto teaming; disable if you experience BungeeCord team conflicts.
  • /viaver dontbugme – Toggle the update notifier.
  • /viaver pps – Show packets per second statistics for ported players.
  • /viaver debug – Display all packets in console for troubleshooting packet crashes; only use when requested for bug reports.

Installation

  1. Download the ViaVersion plugin JAR file.
  2. Place the JAR file in your server's plugins folder.
  3. Restart your server.
  4. If using BungeeCord or another proxy, configure the plugin on the proxy server instead of individual backend servers.
  5. Use /viaver commands to verify installation and adjust settings as needed.
